Why a warewasher from the PT Series is the perfect solution for a hotel: Wolfgang Schewe, private owner of the »Hotel am Meer«, and his decision to opt for Winterhalter.

Winterhalter reference Hotel am Meer

The HOTEL AM MEER & SPA on the island of Rügen is situated right on the promenade in Binz, just a few steps away from the sea. Embedded in the local seaside architecture, the building stands out with its modern and minimalist snow-white facade. Twenty-one years ago, the owner and manager Wolfgang Schewe turned his dream of a boutique hotel by the sea into a reality and created a place for sport, recreation and relaxation with his white villa. Since then, the native of Rügen, who admits he has a weakness for design, has repeatedly reshaped and renovated the four-star superior hotel.

The 60 bedrooms are characterised by fantastic views of the Baltic Sea as well as design-conscious furnishings. The colours and design features throughout the hotel boast a maritime flair. Schewe explains: »My idea was to bring the beach and the sea into the interior design. The nature immediately in front of the hotel was the model. The silkily polished oak floor in the meerbar | restaurant & bar is reminiscent of driftwood, for example, while the delicate pendant lights look like coral. These and many other details make reference to the natural beauty of the island of Rügen«, explains Wolfgang Schewe.

Wolfgang Schewe, Hotel am Meer

With enterprise, intuition and the courage to try something new, in 1995 Wolfgang Schewe took the brave decision to build the Hotel am Meer in a first-class location in Binz on the island of Rügen.

The meerbar I restaurant & bar on the fully glazed ground floor with its direct view of the Baltic Sea is known for its delicious, healthy cuisine with Pomeranian and Scandinavian influences. Two Winterhalter warewashers have been running non-stop in the kitchen since 2016, washing kitchen utensils, dishes and glasses. The restaurant seats 80, the bar 60 – potential for plenty of dirty dishes. From breakfast, seamlessly into lunch, then coffee, dinner and the bar. The dishwashing staff work in shifts, while the passthrough dishwasher and glasswasher from Winterhalter run continuously. The glasses from the bar are collected, sorted and then washed in the glasswasher in the kitchen. Schewe explains: »We have used the valuable space in the bar for other things. And since we have an extra glasswasher in the kitchen, that seemed to us to be the most effective way to go.«

Each of our customers has their own very personal reasons for choosing Winterhalter for their commercial warewashing needs. For Wolfgang Schewe, these are the main ones:

  • Outstanding Winterhalter service during the procurement process
  • Direct communications and agreements reached quickly
  • Warewasher “Made in Germany”
  • A product that saves energy and resources

It was important to me to have a product that is made in Germany and delivers perfect wash results. Of course, it also had to have impressive energy consumption, so I checked out the technical specifications in advance.
