TOP TEN FOR PPM

TOP TEN FOR PPM

Winterhalter’s advice on the whys and wherefores of Planned Preventative Maintenance

Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) is constantly being promoted to foodservice operators, yet many of them don’t sign up for it.  Why?  Perhaps they don’t back it because they don’t get it – but they do know it will cost them money.  Now Winterhalter has put together an infographic explaining their top ten reasons for taking out a PPM contract.

Winterhalter’s service business development manager, Ken Grace, reckons that while PPM calls for an investment, it’s also the best way to minimise equipment running costs, and thus save money, and to ensure your dishwasher (or other appliance) delivers the very best performance.   “It’s madness for a business to pay thousands for an appliance and then not to look after it properly,” he says.  “You wouldn’t buy a car and not get it serviced.  A PPM contract means a qualified engineer regularly checks over your equipment and makes sure it keeps working efficiently, minimising the chance of breakdown.  What’s more, PPM can keep your machine working for longer.  It’s not unusual for a properly serviced Winterhalter dishwasher to be operating for ten years or more – that’s a big cost saving compared to buying two or three machines over the same period, and is the ultimate in sustainability.”

Here's a quick look at the Winterhalter ‘Top Ten for PPM’:

  1. Reduced downtime – PPM means engineers can identify issues before they cause a breakdown, so you can carry on working
  2. Extended lifespan – a PPM contract can help a busy appliance last ten years or more – which works out much less expensive than having to replace it every two or three years
  3. Food safety and hygiene – clean, well-maintained equipment is less likely to harbour bacteria and contaminants
  4. Energy efficiency – PPM ensures equipment runs efficiently, reducing your energy costs
  5. Cost savings – OK, PPM costs money but it significantly reduces the risk of expensive breakdown, repairs and disruptions.  And then there’s the hidden costs – things like staff having to wash by hand, with the associated impact on morale, and the dent in profitability due to slow turnaround…
  6. Results – PPM will ensure your appliance delivers the best possible performance and results, throughout its working life
  7. Productivity – if equipment is reliable, it means faster prep time, consistent food quality and happier staff
  8. Peace of mind – knowing your equipment is regularly checked and maintained gets rid of that ‘what if it breaks down’ headache, so managers can get on with running the business
  9. Sustainability – PPM means equipment runs efficiently for the longest time – so it’s as green as it can be
  10. Convenience – PPM visits can be arranged at times that suit your business – unlike emergency call outs!

The PPM infographic is available from the advice section at winterhalter.com/uk-en.

Winterhalter UK’s PPM package is called ‘Total Care’ and covers not only looking after equipment but also has engineers offering advice and training so that staff are able to follow best practice in operation and day-to-day maintenance of the appliance.
